VCI consultants are challenged to take on multiple responsibilities. A typical day of a VCI consultant may consist of the following:

  • 1. Client Work - The single most important responsibility of a VCI consultant is to deliver the highest quality work for clients. You will collect and analyze data, prepare and communicate findings, facilitate workshops, develop and validate solutions, and perform other types of related work.
  • 2. Thought Capital Development - VCI consultants are actively encouraged to publish articles and deliver presentations at key industry events. In addition, the knowledge consultants gain through project work needs to be indexed cataloged and shared with other consultants in the form of training, seminars, and internal publications. A portion of your work will be devoted to this type of work.
  • 3. New Business Development - You may be asked to perform work necessary to identify and develop new business opportunities. This includes market analysis, participation in industry events, and client presentations.

At VCI , career progression takes four, successive steps:

  • 1. Analysts - This is the starting point for most consultants. Analyst support consultants on project teams by conducting rigorous analysis, developing solutions, and performing various ad-hoc tasks. After 2-3 years of supporting project teams, an Analyst typically develop deep technical expertise in several key analytical approaches and tools.
  • 2. Consultants - Consultants make up the majority of VCI staff. As contributing members of project teams, consultants analyze data, communicate findings, formulate solutions, and conduct training. More senior consultants may lead smaller projects and teams.
  • 3. Engagement Leaders - Engagement Leaders act as the “go-to persons” for both VCI and client teams. They work with Partners in maintaining strong relationships with clients and develop new business opportunities.
  • 4. Partners - As an owner of the firm, Partners lead major engagements, maintain client relationships, develop new services, mentor staff, and partake in strategic decision making.

  • Business Analyst - Several positions are available for analysts with a strong background in statistics and financial modeling. Ideal candidates are skilled users of Excel, Access, Minitab, or similar statistics software, and possess a working knowledge of how databases work. A bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, finance, accounting, or economics is required and an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Operational Assessment Consultant - Several positions are available to conduct operational assessment of financial services firms. Candidates with experience in SEI’s CMMi, Malcolm Baldridge, or related quality programs COBIT, Six Sigma/Lean, and SOX are encouraged to apply. Deep knowledge of enterprise risk frameworks, such as COSO, is a plus. An MBA from a top business school and/or post-graduate degree in the sciences or engineering is preferred.
